Idea and short project description

The FLIP project is an innovative initiative aimed at revolutionising the democratic and civic engagement of young people by developing a set of essential skills in financial education, management and communication among young people and youth organisations through practical methods, in particular using participatory budgeting. Financial literacy is increasingly recognised as an important element of personal empowerment and active citizenship, yet research shows that only a small proportion of EU citizens are financially literate. This deficit not only hinders individuals from making informed economic decisions, but also limits their engagement in democratic processes and community development.

Project aim

The project aims to improve the financial literacy of youth, promote democratic participation through participatory budgeting (PB), empower youth organizations and staff by providing training, generate data on non-formal education, and advocate for systemic change by promoting the integration of financial literacy and PB in youth programs and local governance, influencing policy changes, and create sustainable transnational networks supporting cooperation.

Activities

  • Research, data collection - financial literacy training for young people (pilot groups with results analysis)
  • Capacity building activities: financial literacy and participatory budgeting training, networking and simulation games and mobility (Italy, Cyprus, Portugal), including monitoring and evaluation of project activities
  • Development of youth engagement strategy and communication strategy for participatory budgeting projects (including online meetings)
  • Preparation of participatory budgeting pilots - training of PB coordinators, project proposals, implementation of selected projects, PB expo (presentation of selected projects at national events)
  • Communication and dissemination activities, including project website, newsletter, FLIP electronic platform, Instagram profile
  • Online and field partner meetings (Portugal and Luxembourg) and international final conference combined with a visit to an EU institution (Luxembourg)
