In the Commune of Sękowa, you can feel the breeze of history, because there are places that still remember the times of the First World War. To remind about the historical heritage of this region, an educational path has been created, to which the blue trail leads from Gorlice towards Magura Małastowska. It is located in the area of the State Forests of the Gorlice Forest District, in a place where there are authentic trenches from the First World War. The path was equipped with information boards, and the infrastructure was additionally diversified with shooting positions, shelters and dugouts. The project also assumed the organization of the reconstruction of the "Battle of Gorlice" and the battle "For the hill of Kastielik" on the Polish-Slovak border.
The main activities carried out under the project:
- Equipment of the educational path along with the reconstruction of fragments of trenches . As part of the task, authentic trenches and shooting positions were recreated. The resulting exhibition is in the form of an educational trail located in Sękowa in a place where there are trenches that were authentic 100 years ago. The educational path (trench) has been equipped with 12 information boards describing particular places and warfare as well as interesting elements of history. The path also includes a car park, a footbridge, and the passage through the forest and the culvert have been arranged. The first large plaque shows the path diagram and the natural and historical offer of the Sękowa commune, the second one presents cross-sectional drawings of the trenches as well as a description and photographs of authentic trenches. Smaller directional boards describe in turn: Cemetery No. 80 visible from the path, Choleric cemetery was established in connection with the cholera epidemic, natural environment, history of the village of Siary, history of the village of Sękowa, trenches, War Activities of the First World War, construction holes, trenches, construction, trenches - shooting stands, history of crude oil. A tourist moving along the path can also observe nature and historical attractions.
- Organization of the reconstruction of the "Battle of Gorlice" and "For the Kastielik hill." As part of the project, activities were planned both on the Polish and Slovak side. Reconstruction of the Battle of Kaštielik Hill. ”The program included a presentation of the equipment and equipment of the army of the Slovak Republic, a presentation of the police forces of the Slovak Republic and fire brigades of the Slovak Republic. The whole event was completed by a military plane from the First World War, which actively participated in the entire reconstruction of the fights. The organizer managed to show the real atmosphere of the battle from World War I, using pyrotechnics, period uniforms, field kitchens. 300 contractors participated in the event. and 3000 viewers. In turn, in the commune of Sękowa near Gorlice, a reconstruction of the battle of World War I on the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I took place, entitled "Reconstruction of the Battle of Gorlice". The reconstruction presented the audience with demonstrations of battles, which were one of the biggest battles of the Eastern Front of World War I. Over 300 performers and organizers as well as about 5,000 spectators took part in the reconstruction. Part of the project was also the realization of two cultural events consisting of plenary painting sessions, which were carried out in parallel with the reconstruction reconstructions on the Slovak and Polish side.
