The Euroregion connects across borders – memory builds cooperation
Gorlice became an international center for discussions on the legacy of World War I on February 24–26, 2026.
It was there that, during a meeting of the GOV4PeaCE project partners, we:
- presented the results of pilot projects from various regions of Europe, including the Carpathian Euroregion,
- visited nearby war cemeteries from 1915 and sites associated with the Gorlice Offensive,
- discussed the future of cross-border cooperation in the field of heritage.
The culmination was an international conference attended by attachés from several European countries – including Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia, France, and Austria.
It was there that, together with the Association of Fortress Municipalities of the Przemyśl Fortress, we presented the Carpathian heritage of World War I and the concept of the cross-border historical trails Carpathia Walk of Peace / WW1 – a joint Polish-Slovak initiative combining sites of the Great War into one cohesive product of remembrance and historical tourism based on the Carpathia Brand.
From pilot project to real international cooperation. The Carpathians demonstrate that history can unite.
We thank our partners in Gorlice for their hospitality.
