Where people meet, cooperation begins????
In this series, we present projects implemented under the Small Projects Fund, Interreg Poland-Slovakia program 2021-2027, priority 3: creative and attractive border area for tourists
???????? In the footsteps of World War I on the Polish-Slovak border/After the feet of the 1st World War on the Polish-Slovak border
Beneficiary: Komańcza Commune (PL)
Project Partner: Mesto Medzilaborce (SK)
Project Value: PLN 79,830.37
It was a journey through time.
To a history that has been present for years – but not always accessible.
Thanks to a joint project, we managed to restore and retell it.????
????️ In Komańcza – in the restored building of the former railway station – history has gained new life, a multimedia Memorial Room has been created, which takes visitors back to the realities of World War I.
???? thanks to modern presentations and films, you can literally "enter" the story being told
???? The collected artifacts and testimonies have uncovered previously unknown threads from the past.
On the other side of the border:
????️ the war cemetery in Medzilaborce (Vydraň) was renovated
♿ Accessibility was ensured so that everyone could visit this memorial site.
But the most important thing happened between people...
???? joint activities connected communities on both sides of the border
???? history has become a space for meeting, conversation and getting to know each other
???? A shared story emerged – across borders.
The project helped preserve and share the heritage of World War I and create a new tourist offer for the border region.
